Speaking on Tuesday during the Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL) Zambia Peace Education Implementation Declaration event held at Lusaka Boys secondary school, Lusaka Province Education Officer Terry Changwe emphasized that education should go beyond academics to cultivate responsible and compassionate citizens.
He commended the HWPL peace education initiative for aligning closely with Zambia’s educational goals.
The event brought together key stakeholders, including the media, one of human rights artists Brian Bwembya famously known as BFLOW, members of the zonal and district education boards and the Head Teachers Association of Zambia.
Most schoolheads participated in the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding with HWLP to implement the peace education programmes in their schools.
‘ The role of education must extend beyond academic achievements to include character formation and civic responsibility. The peace education initiative introduced aligns powerfully with this vision of instilling values such as mutual respect, dialogue and peaceful conflict resolution,’’ he said.
Lusaka Province Education Board Secretary Ian Miyoba said the learners’ have hope to embrace each other, learn about peace and to be able to live in peace with others.
HWPL, Global 08 Chief Branch Manager Daniel Yoo said his Organisaation believes that true peace begins not in treaties, but in classrooms.
“Education has the power to shape not only knowledge but also character. Through peace education , we teach children not only how to think but how to live with empathy, with tolerance and with hope,’’ Mr Yahoo said.
He said HWPL stands ready to to walk hand in hand with Zambia, supporting the development of peace education into the national public education system and make a statement that peace is not an option but a responsibility to pass to the next generation.
