MINISTRY of Infrastructure Housing and Urban Development ( MHUD) has cautioned members of the public not to fall prey of unscrupulous individuals soliciting payments to register for housing units in the Lusaka South Multi- Facility Economic Zone.
In a statement issued yesterday by MHUD principal public relations officer Francesca Phiri =Banda, the Ministry has since advised members of the public to deal with the authorized entities which are the Ministry, National Housing Authority ( NHA) and Ongos Valley Development private Limited Company of Namibia ( OVDL).
Ms Banda says the construction of the housing units is expected to commence in the second quarter of this year.
” We advise members of the public to report any suspicious activities or individuals purporting to register off-takes for housing units,” the statement reads in part .
The interested off-takes have since been advised to chose from various payment modes including rent to own, mortgage facility, outright purchase, installment scheme adding that, there is no requirement for payment at the point of registration.
The Ministry working in partnership with OVDL and NHA is developing housing units within the Lusaka South Multi- Facility Economic Zone.
The Ministry says it is committed to providing sustainable, decent and, affordable housing for all socio-economic groups in Zambia in line withnthe National Housing Policy.
According to Habitat for Humanity Zambia has a deficit of over 2 million housing units and this figure is expected to double by 2030.
