The Rwanda Standards Board (RSB), in collaboration with the National Child Development Agency (NCDA) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources (MINAGRI), is actively promoting the consumption of fish and fish-based products among residents of Rusizi and Nyamasheke districts. This initiative aims to enhance nutrition and combat malnutrition-related diseases prevalent in these regions.

On March 25, 2025, a campaign was held in Rusizi District to encourage adherence to quality standards for agricultural and livestock products. Kabanguka Nathan of the NCDA emphasized the importance of consuming high-quality fish, noting its richness in nutrients essential for both child development and adult health.
Local fish trader Maniraguha Valerie shared positive developments, stating that their sales have increased from 10 to 100 kilos per person, leading to greater demand both locally and internationally. She highlighted that the income from fish sales has enabled her children to access education and improved nutrition.

Hakizimana Naivasha Bella, a quality assurance officer at RSB, discussed the impact of implementing quality standards, which have transformed fish farming into a professional industry. These standards ensure that fish are raised in controlled environments, monitored daily, and reach appropriate sizes for harvesting.
RSB is also offering training programs to educate individuals on the benefits of fish farming and providing financial assistance to aspiring fish farmers, aiming to expand the reach of fish consumption and improve public health.
