Rwanda Launches a Project to Improve Onion and Chili Pepper Production

As part of its efforts to boost agriculture and increase production of onions and chili peppers, Rwanda has launched a new project aimed at constructing modern facilities in various regions, including Kigali, Bugesera, Nyagatare, and Rubavu. These facilities will help preserve the harvests, prevent spoilage, and improve the quality of the products that the country exports.

The project was announced by the National Agricultural Export Development Board (NAEB), which stated that the goal is to reduce losses from spoiled crops during harvest time. NAEB emphasized that these facilities will assist farmers in conducting better business practices, allowing the country’s exports to meet international standards.

Modern Technology

The facilities will feature cold storage systems to preserve the harvest for longer periods, which will help protect onions and chili peppers from spoilage during harvest time. Additionally, there will be methods to process the harvest into higher-value products, with chili peppers potentially being sold fresh or processed into powder.

Boosting Agriculture

NAEB stated that the project is expected to enhance the farming of onions and chili peppers, increasing the country’s revenues from international trade while providing farmers with better market access. The initiative is set to support farmers with infrastructure, ensuring that their products meet international standards and facilitating access to global markets.

This project offers great promise for helping farmers utilize advanced technology to preserve their harvests, eliminate losses, and add value to agricultural products on the global stage. It is expected that the production of onions and chili peppers will rise, and Rwanda will increase its export volume.
