Kigali, May 29, 2025 – In a grand graduation ceremony held at BK Arena, Rwanda Polytechnic (RP) awarded diplomas to 4,562 students who completed their studies across various technical and vocational programs. New data from RP indicates that 70% of these graduates are already active—either employed, pursuing further education, or running their own businesses.
With eight campuses spread across the country, Rwanda Polytechnic continues to prove that vocational and technical education is not a fallback option, but a strategic path to sustainable development built on practical skills.

Hands-On Education at the Heart of Rwanda’s Development Vision
Prime Minister Dr. Edouard Ngirente, who presided over the ceremony, underscored the importance of skills-based education in achieving Rwanda’s national goals.
“One of the key pillars of NST2 is promoting technical and vocational training, which will accelerate our transition to a knowledge-based economy,” said the Prime Minister.
He emphasized the role of industrial growth in expanding employment opportunities and encouraged the graduates to embrace innovation and become solution-oriented leaders. From Graduation to Action: 70% of Graduates Already Engaged
An internal follow-up by RP on the class of 2024 revealed the following outcomes:
- 59% secured employment shortly after graduation
- 11% continued with further studies or are undertaking professional internships
- 18% launched their own businesses, earning at least RWF 400,000 per month
These results challenge the perception that vocational education leads to unemployment. Instead, they show it as a reliable route to economic empowerment and youth self-reliance.
Innovation and Patriotism: A New Generation Leading the Way
RP Director General Dr. Sylvie Mucyo praised the graduates for their readiness to contribute to Rwanda’s transformation through innovation, creativity, and professional integrity.

“These students are part of the solution to our society’s challenges. They have the technical expertise demanded by the job market, and they reflect the direction Rwanda is heading,” she stated.
She urged them to uphold strong values, love for their country, and a spirit of lifelong learning.
A Racing Car, a Symbol of Potential
The Prime Minister commended a group of RP students who built Africa’s first cross car (a type of racing car), highlighting it as a symbol of how technical education, when well-supported, can lead to groundbreaking innovations.
Call for Girls to Embrace Technical Training
Dr. Ngirente also encouraged girls to pursue technical and vocational fields, noting that these opportunities are not limited to boys and are critical for both personal and national growth.
Driving Rwanda Forward – One Skilled Graduate at a Time
As global dynamics evolve, Rwanda Polytechnic is positioning itself as a cornerstone of practical education that empowers citizens. By continually producing competent, innovative, and self-reliant graduates, RP is playing a vital role in Rwanda’s journey toward inclusive and sustainable development.
