Top Ugandan Army Commander lands in Mogadishu for Somalia-Uganda security cooperation

Deputy Chief of the Ugandan Defence Forces, Sam Okiding, landed in Mogadishu on Saturday, where he was welcomed by senior officials from the Somali Army and AUSSOM.

During the visit, he will meet with Somalia’s top security officials to discuss enhancing collaboration between the two nations to combat ongoing threats from extremist groups, particularly Al-Shabaab, which continues to pose a significant challenge to stability in Somalia.

AUSSOM troop deployment and logistics will also be part of the discussions he will have with Somali and AU officials.

Okiding’s visit underscores Uganda’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s security efforts and maintaining peace in the region.

Somalia and Uganda have bilateral military and security cooperation.

Uganda has been the main contributor to the AU mission in Somalia since 2007 and has dominated AUSSOM and its predecessors, AMISOM and ATMIS.
