Christian Legal Practitioners from Across Africa Meet in Kigali to Rethink the Delivery of Justice on the Continent

Legal professionals from 43 African countries have gathered in Kigali, Rwanda for a continental conference that brings together justice sector actors who share the Christian faith, to reflect on the challenges and opportunities in the pursuit of sustainable justice.

The 16th edition of the Advocates Africa Conference, which began on August 13, 2025, brings together lawyers, prosecutors, judges, and others involved in the legal system.

Held under the theme “We Are the Aroma of Christ,” the conference emphasizes the role of Christian values in strengthening a legal profession grounded in integrity and justice for all.

Key topics to be discussed include the protection of human rights, access to fair justice, the promotion of women’s and children’s rights, as well as the role of law in sustainable development.

The discussions come at a time when justice systems across Africa continue to face criticism from some citizens who cite corruption and abuse of power as major barriers to genuine justice.

The conference is considered a platform for exchanging ideas and experiences among legal experts in search of practical solutions to the persistent challenges facing the justice sector.
