The Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) has entrusted Dr. Ngoga Shema Fabrice with the presidency after elections held on August 30, 2025. Dr. Shema, the only candidate for the position, was elected by FERWAFA members, with 51 out of 53 members supporting his candidacy, ensuring his leadership for the next four years (2025-2029).
In his acceptance, Dr. Shema emphasized that he would not take a salary as president. Instead, he announced that the $200,000 allocated for his salary over the four years would be directed towards developing youth football talent in Rwanda. He expressed his intention to ensure that the funds would be used exclusively for projects aimed at advancing the sport at the grassroots level.
Dr. Shema, who previously served as president of AS Kigali FC, returns to the position after stepping down in June 2023.
In his plans for FERWAFA, Dr. Shema highlighted his commitment to fostering the growth of young talent, stating that all funds would be invested in nurturing future football stars. He also plans to reform officiating, introducing a monthly salary for referees to encourage professionalism within the sport.
Dr. Shema pledged to work towards eliminating any perception of favoritism in football, stressing the importance of fairness and equality in the sport. His leadership will focus on maintaining integrity in decision-making and ensuring a level playing field for all.
