The President of the Republic of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, attended the match in which the national team, Amavubi, hosted Bénin at Amahoro Stadium, as part of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers set to take place in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
This match took place on Friday, October 10, 2025, starting at 6:00 PM, and it was part of Matchday 9 in Group C of the qualifiers. President Kagame arrived at the stadium in the 40th minute of the first half, when both teams were still tied at 0-0.
Amavubi went on to lose the match 1-0 to Bénin, in a game marked by intense competition between both sides. The win gave Bénin three points, helping them maintain their position among the top teams in the group.
Rwanda remains in fourth place with 11 points, the same as Nigeria, which is in third. Bénin and South Africa lead the group, each two points ahead of Rwanda.
