The Journey to Plant 65 Million Trees Nationwide

Kigali, Rwanda – No stopping the mission! Rwanda has taken a bold step in safeguarding life and the environment through a new initiative to plant 65 million trees across the country. This remarkable effort aims to mitigate the impacts of climate change by planting trees in homes, farms, and forests nationwide.

The Managing Director of One Acre Fund-Tubura in Rwanda, Belinda Bwiza, says they are pleased to have planted 100 million trees in Rwanda over the past seven years.

This initiative was officially announced on Friday, October 25, 2024, as the Ministry of Environment, in collaboration with One Acre Fund – Tubura, celebrated their achievements over the past seven years. In that time, they have planted 100 million trees, providing a vital source of life, fresh air, and beauty throughout the country.

The Minister of Environment, Dr. Valentine Uwamariya, emphasized that this initiative is a key pillar in preserving life and the environment, affirming that the ministry will continue its collaboration with One Acre Fund – Tubura. She said, “We believe this journey will lead to great results because where there is a tree, there is life.”

Currently, Rwanda has reached a milestone of covering 30% of its land with forests, yet Minister Uwamariya emphasized that the goal is not to stop there. This season, diverse seedlings have been prepared, including fruit trees, fuel trees, and decorative trees, ensuring every region grows and prospers.

The Managing Director of One Acre Fund – Tubura in Rwanda, Belinda Bwiza, highlighted that tackling climate change requires collective effort. She added, “We have made significant progress, but we encourage others to join us in growing a greener Rwanda.”

This program will also help address soil erosion issues and enhance agricultural productivity, providing citizens with a better quality of life and strengthening the country’s commitment to climate action.

One Acre Fund – Tubura plans to plant an additional 25 million trees this year, a major contribution toward fulfilling this ambitious initiative.
