On Tuesday, January 14, 2025, a serious accident occurred in the Kamonyi District, at Musambira, below the Musambira Catholic Parish, where two vehicles collided. The police reported that three people were seriously injured, while eight others sustained minor injuries.
Images shared on social media showed the vehicles involved, including a passenger bus from RFTC traveling from Kigali City and a Toyota Hilux Vigo coming from Muhanga District heading towards Kigali.
The spokesperson for the police’s traffic department, SP Emmanuel Kayigi, confirmed that the accident occurred in the Nyarusange – Karengera area in the Musambira Sector, around 11:00 AM. He said: “The accident involved a Toyota Vigo pickup truck carrying four people, traveling from Muhanga to Kigali. When the driver reached Musambira, he lost control after he failed to maneuver, hitting a Toyota Coaster carrying 28 passengers.”
The police further stated that the accident was caused by the driver of the Toyota Vigo not paying attention to speed limits and failing to navigate the road safely. SP Kayigi urged road users to avoid accidents by obeying traffic laws and driving responsibly.
The police continue to advise drivers to be cautious, avoid speeding, and follow road safety rules to prevent accidents and protect others using the roads.
