APR BBC and United Generation Basketball (UGB) have advanced to the final in the men’s category of the annual Kwibuka Basketball Tournament, held in memory of the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. The semi-final matches took place on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Petit Stade in Remera.
UGB was the first to take to the court, facing Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), a strong team from Kenya, and defeating them 77-55. UGB dominated the game from start to finish, thanks to strong performances by players such as Emmanuel Iyakaremye, Patrick Habiyaremye, and Kevin Ndahiro.
In the evening, APR BBC faced off against Dar City BBC from Tanzania in a highly anticipated match. APR BBC showcased excellent performance and determination to reach the final. The first quarter ended with APR leading 19-14, with key contributions from Ntore Habimana and Wilson Nshobozwabyosenumukiza. By halftime, APR had extended its lead to 45-31.
In the third quarter, Dar City attempted a comeback with standout plays from Deng Dhieu, but APR maintained control and closed the quarter ahead 64-54. In the final quarter, Dar City intensified their efforts and cut the deficit to just three points. However, APR regained momentum, relying on experienced players such as William Robeyns, Geralde, and Diarra Aliou Fadiala to seal the victory at 81-68.
In the women’s category, Uganda’s JKL Dolphins and Rwanda’s REG WBBC reached the final. JKL Dolphins defeated Kenya Ports Authority 74-62, while REG overcame APR WBBC with a score of 70-49.
The tournament finals are scheduled to take place on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at Petit Stade in Remera. This tournament is held annually as a tribute to the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and serves as a platform to promote peace and unity through sports.
