Mugabe, who played for various teams including Kepler BBC, retires from Basketball

Mugabe Aristide, who has played professional basketball for 18 years, has announced his decision to retire from the sport, thanking God and everyone who played a role in his sporting journey. The player, famous in the Rwanda National Basketball Team and various local clubs, announced this through a message posted on his X account this Tuesday, February 10, 2026.

In his words, he said: “After 18 years, I am announcing my retirement from the game of basketball. I thank God. I am deeply honored and sincerely grateful to everyone who has been part of my journey: my family and friends, all coaches, teammates, opponents, fans, and club managements. Thank you so much. Yours, Captain.”

Mugabe Aristide has been one of the experienced and exemplary players in the Rwanda Basketball League, making a big name for himself in the National Team, where he served as captain for a long time, leading his teammates in various regional and international competitions.

The player went through various Rwandan teams, including Espoir BBC and Rusizi BBC at the beginning of his journey, before becoming widely known at Patriots BBC where he spent eight years, playing a key role in winning trophies and making the team one of the strongest in the country.

After leaving Patriots BBC, Mugabe Aristide moved to Kepler BBC, where he was not only a player but also served as an assistant coach, demonstrating that the knowledge and experience he possesses can be shared with the youth to help in the development of Rwandan basketball.

Mugabe Aristide was born in Huye District on February 11, 1988. Besides playing basketball, he has often shown a great love for music, which he frequently regards as another talent that brings him peace and happiness.

Although he has retired from professional basketball, the name Mugabe Aristide will continue to be remembered as a player who played a significant role in the development of the sport in Rwanda, and many believe he will continue to contribute through coaching and helping young talents rise.
