Sheffield has marked a significant milestone with the appointment of its first black woman in a hijab as Lord Mayor.
Safiya Saeed, representing the Labour Party, was officially sworn in as the city’s 128th Lord Mayor during a council meeting held on Monday.
Family members from her native Somalia were present at the Sheffield Town Hall to witness this historic event.
Her election to this ceremonial position is seen as a groundbreaking achievement for the city, reflecting Sheffield’s commitment to diversity and inclusivity.
