A group of 11 female soldiers from Somalia’s Army, Navy, and Air Force has successfully completed their training at the TURKSOM military academy in Mogadishu.
These women are set to travel to Turkey soon to continue their military education, where they will receive further leadership training and gain advanced military experience.
This marks a major step forward in promoting gender equality within Somalia’s armed forces. The opportunity given to these women reflects the government’s commitment to empowering women in leadership and decision-making roles.
Military leadership in Somalia has emphasized that including women in command positions strengthens the overall performance of the army by bringing diverse perspectives to problem-solving and strategic planning.
Officials also stated that this training will help the officers serve as role models and encourage more women and girls to pursue careers in the military and security sectors.
Upon completing their training in Turkey, the officers are expected to return with the skills and knowledge needed to take on leadership roles and contribute meaningfully to the development and effectiveness of Somalia’s security forces.
