On the morning of October 22, 2025, 25 students of Green Hills International College were taken into custody by security forces following a major disturbance at the school. The protest, which occurred around 2 a.m., involved students wearing masks, damaging school property including video cameras and televisions, and attempting to set fire to school offices using gasoline.
According to Primo Media, information from the school indicates that the protest was triggered by the administration’s decision to expel some students found with cannabis and others accused of damaging equipment.
Nestor Hakizimana, responsible for student conduct and dormitories at the school, stated that the gasoline and drugs used during the protest may have been brought in by the students themselves, visitors, or some school staff. He added that students proven innocent will be allowed to return to school, while those found guilty of these offenses will face severe punishment.
The school administration is urging parents and guardians to help combat drug use among youth, as investigations continue to determine everyone’s role in the incident.
