Rwandan Riders Struggle on Day Two of the 2025 UCI Road World Championships in Kigali

On Tuesday, September 23, 2025, the UCI Road World Championships continued in Kigali with the individual time trials for junior men and women under 19 years of age. It was a tough day for Rwandan cyclists, as none of the four local riders finished in the top 30 of their respective races.

In the junior men’s category, Byusa Pacifique and Ishimwe Brian represented Rwanda. Byusa was the first rider to start from BK Arena at 1:54 PM and finished the 22.6-kilometer course at Kigali Convention Center in 34 minutes and 34 seconds, placing 53rd. Brian Ishimwe completed the race in 34 minutes and 59 seconds, finishing 55th.

In the junior women’s race, Yvonne Masengesho and Liliane Uwiringiyimana competed for Rwanda. Masengesho finished 33rd, covering the 18.3-kilometer route in 29 minutes and 43 seconds. Uwiringiyimana placed 40th with a time of 30 minutes and 58 seconds.

The men’s race was won by Mouris Michiel from the Netherlands, who clocked 29 minutes and 7 seconds. In the women’s race, Arnes Megan, also from the Netherlands, took first place with a time of 25 minutes and 47 seconds.

The championship will continue on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, with the Mixed Team Time Trial. The event will feature 19 teams, each consisting of three male and three female riders.
