After drawing 1-1 with Rutsiro FC in the matchday six fixture of the Rwanda Premier League, the management of APR FC expressed dissatisfaction with the refereeing of the game played in Rubavu on Saturday, November 1, 2025.
The Army team opened the scoring in the 33rd minute through Denis Omedi, who converted a cross from Hakim Kiwanuka. Eight minutes later, Rutsiro FC equalized through a penalty scored by Nizeyimana Jean Claude, after the center referee, Ngabonziza Jean Paul, awarded a foul committed inside the penalty area.
After the match, APR FC Chairman, Brig. Gen. Déo Rusanganwa, stated that there were referee decisions he disagreed with, particularly those he believed could have changed the course of the game. He mentioned that in the second half, a goal scored by William Togui was disallowed for offside, but he believed Rutsiro FC players were ahead of the APR FC striker who scored.
Brig. Gen. Rusanganwa said such decisions should be thoroughly reviewed to reduce disputes and issues related to refereeing. He said: “It is important that every match is guided by fairness because it helps build trust among clubs, referees, and fans.”
So far, APR FC says it will consider whether to write to the Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) requesting a review of the incidents, in order to continue promoting impartial officiating in the league.
