Musician Ngabonziza Augustin, who became widely known for songs such as “Ancilla”, “Rugori Rwera”, and others that were popular in the 1980s, has passed away after a long illness.
Reports indicate that Ngabonziza Augustin had been hospitalized at the University Teaching Hospital of Kigali (CHUK), where he passed away after his health had deteriorated.
Ngabonziza is known as one of the artists who helped build the foundation of Rwandan music before the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. He was one of the founders of Orchestre Les Citadins, alongside his brother Ngayisonga Bernard.
Later, in the year 2000, Ngabonziza co-founded Orchestre Irangira with Nikobisanzwe André Gromyko. This orchestra became well known for its performances at Kwa Lando, where it played every Saturday, until it stopped its activities around 2007.
