Haruna Niyonzima, a prominent footballer from Madjengo in Rubavu District—who has played for various clubs including AS Kigali and the Rwanda National Team (Amavubi)—has been selected among the coaches to undergo training at Atlético de Madrid in Spain. The coaching program, which aims to transform the future of football in Rwanda, commenced last Thursday at Amahoro Stadium. This initiative is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Sports, the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) through Visit Rwanda, and Atlético de Madrid.

The Atlético de Madrid technical team conducted training for youth coaches while simultaneously selecting those who will receive advanced professional training in Spain. Among the selected coaches is Haruna Niyonzima, recognized for his career with the national team and various clubs both within Rwanda and abroad. Other selected participants include Sifa Gloria Nibagwire, a former player for the Women’s National Team, as well as Innocent Murwanashyaka, Iragena Oscarie, Joseph Junior Rutagengwa, Nadia Bugenimana, Blaise Itangishaka, Nicolas Hakizimana, Darius Hirwa, Damascène Nsengiyumva, Emmanuel Coman Mugisha, Schadrack Nsengayire, and Shema Bravo.

As the trained coaches received their certificates on Saturday, FERWAFA President Fabrice Shema urged them to work diligently, expressing his vision that they will become the future coaches of the Rwanda National Team. Atlético de Madrid has maintained a partnership with Rwanda to promote the Visit Rwanda campaign since last year.
