Retired CSP Richard Kamanzi Killed by Rain-Induced Disaster

The incident occurred in Rindiro Village, Kibagabaga Cell, Kimironko Sector, at around 1:00 PM. Reports indicate that a retaining wall collapsed onto the deceased’s house.

It is alleged that water flowing from a neighbor’s property uphill seeped into the wall, which was integrated with the compound fence, eventually causing it to collapse onto the bedroom where Retired CSP Kamanzi was resting.

The Rwanda National Police Spokesperson for the City of Kigali, CIP Wellars Gahonzire, confirmed the news and extended condolences to the family of the deceased.

He stated: “We stand in solidarity with his family during this time of loss. Our immediate priority was to find them shelter as the house they were living in was destroyed.”

He urged citizens to be cautious during the rainy season, specifically emphasizing the proper management of wastewater from their homes to prevent landslides and other disasters caused by heavy rains.

CIP Gahonzire also cautioned those who seek shelter under trees during rain and those who block water drainage channels, while further calling on parents to closely monitor their children during these rainy periods.

The body of the deceased has been taken to the Rwanda Military Hospital in Kanombe, while arrangements are being made to relocate the family from the site of the accident.
