Afadhari: A Catalyst of Hope in the Fight Against AIDS

During the World AIDS Day event held at Kivu Intare Arena, Afadhari shared a deeply moving testimony. He recounted how he encountered the virus at 25 but overcame challenges through determination and the love of his supporters. “Self-acceptance is the first step in fighting this epidemic,” he said.
Minister of Health, Dr. Sabin Nsanzimana, highlighted Rwanda’s significant progress:
90% of people living with HIV know their status ,98% are on effective antiretroviral treatment.Over the past 20 years, AIDS-related deaths have decreased by 82%, and new infections by 83%.
However, daily, 7% die from AIDS in Rwanda, and 1,500 new infections occur yearly, showing the battle is far from over.Afadhari concluded, “HIV is not the end; it’s a new beginning to transform your life and strive for better.”
