KIGALI, Rwanda, Police VC has made history in Rwandan volleyball, becoming the first domestic club to reach the final of the African Men’s Club Championship (CAVB Men’s Club Championship).
In the semi-final match held this Friday, May 1, 2026, Police VC eliminated REG VC in a highly contested match in Kigali, winning 3-1 sets. The tournament, now in its 47th edition, saw two Rwandan teams reach the semi-finals, ensuring that, for the first time in history, a Rwandan team would secure a spot in the final.

The match began with Police VC, coached by Musoni Fred, showing early dominance to take the first set 25-20. However, REG VC, under coach Mugisha Bavuga Benon, fought back to claim the second set 25-22.
Police VC rectified their mistakes in the third and fourth sets by intensifying their service and blocks. This pressured REG VC into numerous errors, particularly in their reception. Police VC took both sets 25-17 and 25-21, effectively closing out the match.
Participating in the tournament for only the second time since its founding, Police VC set a new record for Rwanda. They surpassed the milestone previously held by Gisagara VC, which was the only Rwandan team to have won a medal in this competition (third place in 2022).

Beyond the team’s success, coach Musoni Fred became the first Rwandan coach to lead a team to the final of the CAVB championship, breaking the record held by Nyirimana Fidele, who led Gisagara VC to the semi-finals four years ago.
Police VC is now waiting to find out their opponent for the final, which will be the winner between Al Ahly and Petrojet SC, both from Egypt, as they compete in the other semi-final.
The final is scheduled to take place at the BK Arena this Saturday, May 2, 2026, starting at 8:00 PM (20:00).
