Iran Attempted to Assassinate Mike Pompeo in 2022, According to New Book

A yet-to-be-released book titled “2024: How Trump Retook the White House and the Democrats Lost America” reveals previously undisclosed information: Iran allegedly attempted to assassinate former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

The attempt reportedly took place in 2022 while Pompeo was traveling in Paris. According to the authors—Josh Dawsey, Tyler Pager, and Isaac Arnsdorf—Iran had detailed intelligence about the hotel where Pompeo was staying, and the assassination plot had progressed significantly.

Pompeo served as Secretary of State from 2018 to 2021 under President Donald Trump’s first term. During his tenure, he was a key figure in tightening U.S. pressure on Iran, including designating its Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization.

The book further alleges that Iran made at least three assassination attempts on American officials in the three years leading up to the 2024 U.S. presidential election. Some of these efforts reportedly took place on U.S. soil, involving specially dispatched operatives.

Although the book does not provide detailed explanations on how the plot against Pompeo was foiled, it highlights growing concerns among U.S. authorities over Iran’s suspected involvement in espionage and targeted violence.
