Journalist Ndahiro Emmanuel, known as Tayikun, arrested by RIB

The Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) has announced that it has arrested a journalist from RadioTV10, Ndahiro Emmanuel, popularly known as “Taikun.”

Ndahiro was arrested on January 1, 2026, after allegedly assaulting security personnel during a concert organized by the City of Kigali that was held at the Kigali Convention Centre grounds.

RIB spokesperson Dr. Murangira B. Thierry told that Ndahiro is suspected of assault and causing bodily harm, damaging or destroying another person’s property, and using threatening language.

Ndahiro is currently being held at the RIB Kimihurura Station while investigations are ongoing.

The law provides that any person who intentionally injures, beats, or assaults another person in a painful manner commits an offense.
If found guilty by a court, such a person faces imprisonment of not less than six months but not more than one year, and a fine of not less than 100,000 Rwandan francs but not more than 300,000 Rwandan francs.

If the assault or injury causes the victim an illness or temporary incapacity to work, the penalty is imprisonment of not less than three years but not more than five years, and a fine of not less than 500,000 Rwandan francs but not more than 1,000,000 Rwandan francs.

If the assault or injury causes an incurable illness, permanent disability preventing the victim from working, permanent loss of function of a body organ, or loss of part of the body, the penalty is imprisonment of not less than five years but not more than ten years, and a fine of not less than 1,000,000 Rwandan francs but not more than 2,000,000 Rwandan francs.

RIB reminds the public to behave responsibly and to avoid excessive consumption of alcohol, as it leads some people into committing crimes.
RIB also urges people to show tolerance during this festive season and at all times, and to avoid criminal acts, as violating the law can result in consequences including imprisonment.
