And Morocco Head of Diplomatic Mission to Zambia Kalakhi Mohammed has assured the continued and deepened bilateral ties between Zambia and Morrocco aimed at benefiting both nations.
Minister of Tourism Rodney Sikumba made these remarks on Wednesday during the commemoration of the 26 th anniversary of enthronement of his Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morrocco.
He said King Mohammed VI’s commitment to inclusive growth, urban modernization and regional equity has ensured that development reaches all corners of the Kingdom, a model that many African nations look upon with admiration.
“Under his majesty’s leadership, Morocco has also played an instrumental role in regional integration and pan Africanism. The Kingdom has also re-asserted its role as a bridge between Africa, Europe and the Arab world, while embracing its active engagement within the African Union and across the Continent stands as a testament to Morocco’s enduring commitment to Africa’s collective aspirations as outlined in the agenda 2023,’’ Mr Sikumba said.
He said over the past 26 years, Morocco has steered a dynamic process of transformation politically, socially and economically adding that King Mohammed’s reign has been marked by strides in infrastructure development, youth empowerment, women’s rights and environmental sustainability.
“Morocco has emerged as a trailblazer in renewable energy, particularly solar energy and wind power, and has become a symbol of African innovation and resilience in the face of global challenges,’’ Mr Sikumba said.
He said his Excellency President Hakainde Hichilema also conveyed his heartfelt congratulations on the 26 th anniversary of King Mohammed’s reign adding that the two countries have continued enjoying warm bilateral relations.
Mr Sikumba said the world today is facing numerous challenges ranging from climate change, food insecurity, conflicts and inequality, the challenges he said require unity of purpose to overcome.
Speaking at the same function, Dr Kalakhi said the last visit to Zambia of his Majesty Mohammed in 2017 is solid evidence of the warm bilateral relations the two countries share.
He said that two countries have also continued cooperating on the economic front as demonstrated through the Morocco-Zambia Joint Cooperation Commission.
“The economic dimension occupies a significant place in the bilateral legal framework today. Key agreements include a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a business Council, an agreement on investment promotion and protection and, a general framework agreement on economic, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation.
