New Rainfall Forecast for September 2025 Expected to Exceed Normal Levels in Some Parts of Rwanda

The Rwanda Meteorology Agency, Meteo Rwanda, has announced that in September 2025, higher-than-usual rainfall is expected, particularly in central and northwestern parts of the country.

Overall, the forecasted rainfall across the country ranges between 35 and 230 millimeters, while the historical average for September ranges between 35 and 200 millimeters. This indicates that many areas could receive more rainfall than they typically do during this period.

Areas expected to receive the highest rainfall include the districts of Rusizi, Nyamasheke, Rutsiro, Rubavu, Karongi, Nyabihu, Musanze, and Burera. Some parts of Ngororero, Nyamagabe, and Nyaruguru districts are also expected to receive significant rainfall.

Other districts such as Muhanga, Gakenke, Rulindo, the northern part of Gicumbi, and parts of Kamonyi, Ruhango, and Nyanza are also forecasted to experience above-average rainfall.

In addition to rainfall, daytime temperatures are expected to range between 18 and 32 degrees Celsius, while nighttime temperatures will range between 6 and 16 degrees Celsius. Wind speeds are projected to vary between 4 and 12 meters per second, which may have an impact in certain areas.

Meteo Rwanda is urging the public to closely follow weather updates and to be cautious of the risks associated with strong winds and lightning, especially in areas where significant weather changes are expected.

While some areas are expected to experience normal rainfall, others face notable variations that should be taken seriously to prevent disasters.
