Practical Examinations for Senior High School Students Begin in Rwanda

In Rwanda, the practical examinations for students in senior high school have begun on May 19, 2025, as part of the process of concluding their education. These exams involve students from TTC, TSS, ACC (Accounting), ANP (Nursing), and those studying sciences. The exams are set to end on June 6, 2025, offering students the opportunity to showcase the knowledge they have gained during their studies.

The exams were officially launched at ESSA Nyarugunga by the State Minister in the Ministry of Education, Irere Claudette. In Kicukiro District, 1,987 students are taking the exams, with 516 of them taking the exam at ESSA Nyarugunga.

Dusengimana Adelic, a student in the final year of food preparation and beverages at ESSA Nyarugunga, expressed that the exams are a chance to demonstrate the knowledge they’ve gained. He stated that success comes from self-confidence and fully understanding the material learned. He also mentioned that education is not just about looking for a job but about creating opportunities for oneself, such as starting small businesses like selling juice or making coffee, which require minimal resources.

In addition, students studying sciences are also participating in practical exams, particularly in laboratories. The State Minister in the Ministry of Education, Irere Claudette, encouraged students to approach their exams calmly, stating that the exams are a natural part of their learning. She emphasized that technical students often go on to create jobs for themselves and others, contributing to the workforce.

She also highlighted that compared to the previous year, science students now take practical exams rather than simply answering practical questions in writing. This year, science students are doing the exams alongside vocational students, which has increased the number of students participating in practical exams.

Irere Claudette concluded by urging students to approach the exams with calmness and confidence, emphasizing that whether they studied at the school or elsewhere, they should perform the exams in a calm and composed manner. She wished them good luck and encouraged them to succeed in their exams.

Practical exams serve as an important opportunity for students to showcase their skills and knowledge, and it marks the beginning of their journey toward either further education or entering the workforce.
