Rayon Sports targets health insurance solution for injured players

Rayon Sports has spent 10 million Rwandan Francs during the 2024/2025 season on medical treatment for injured players.

Rayon Sports is among the teams that have been affected by injury problems this season. Early on, Ndikumana Asman suffered an arm injury and underwent surgery. He was followed by Tambwe Gloire, Bigirimana Abedi, Aziz Bassane, who also broke his arm, as well as Youssou Diagne, who recently sustained a similar injury.

These players were added to Fall Ngagne, who has been sidelined with an injury since last season and has not yet fully recovered.

Gakwaya Olivier, a member of Rayon Sports’ Transitional Committee in charge of technical matters and serving as the club’s spokesperson, confirmed that the club has so far spent 10 million Rwandan Francs on treating injured players.

He said, “There are players who keep getting injured from time to time, and all of that requires money. As we speak, if I am not mistaken, we have already reached 10 million Rwandan Francs spent on medical treatment for players.”

He added that the club is working on a long-term solution by seeking health insurance coverage. “We are addressing this issue with a sustainable solution. Currently, we are in discussions with different health insurance providers so that all staff and players can receive medical care while covered by insurance.”

He further explained that every employee of Rayon Sports is expected to have health insurance. “Every staff member and every player should receive medical care through insurance, and we are far along in this process. In a short time, you will hear that any player, staff member, or anyone working for Rayon Sports will be treated under health insurance.”

Gakwaya Olivier emphasized that this is a long-term solution aimed at preventing Rayon Sports from continuously losing money on unexpected medical expenses.
