In elections held in London on Friday, Somalia was elected as one of the Member States of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council for the 2026/2027 term.The IMO Council is the body responsible for implementing and overseeing the work of the Organization, operating under the guidance of the Assembly.the Council is composed of 40 Member States elected by the Assembly, with each country serving a two-year term.
Somalia’s participation in the governance of the IMO will provide an opportunity to contribute to decisions shaping maritime safety and security at the international level
