The Military Court has postponed the reading of the verdict in a case involving 28 individuals accused of misusing public funds. Among the accused are journalists, officers in the Rwanda Defence Force, employees of the Rwanda Correctional Service (RCS), and other civilians.
The ruling, initially scheduled for August 21, 2025, has been rescheduled for August 26, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., at the Military Court headquarters in Nyamirambo. Reliable sources indicate that the judge had not yet completed writing the full decision due to the complexity and size of the case, prompting the postponement.
The case began in a closed session on August 18, 2025, when the prosecution submitted a request for the pretrial detention of all the accused for 30 days. The request was based on the gravity of the charges and the need to ensure their availability during ongoing investigations.
The charges relate to a trip made by the APR FC football team to Egypt in September 2024 for the CAF Champions League, as well as other official trips involving RCS officers.
While the prosecution argued that there is sufficient reason to justify pretrial detention, the defendants requested to remain free while awaiting trial.
