Japan’s Yokogawa Electric Corporation has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Zambia’s environmental protection and sustainable industrial development through advanced emissions monitoring technologies.
Speaking during a Technical Workshop on Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS) in Lusaka, Yokogawa Head of African Business Promotion Centre, Energy & Sustainability Business Headquarters, Takeshi Hasegawa, emphasized the Corporation’s dedication to improving air quality and public health in the country.
Mr. Hasegawa noted that by leveraging Yokogawa’s strengths in measurement, control and information technologies, the Corporation aims to support improved air quality, protect public health and enhance operational efficiency within Zambia’s industrial sector.
He revealed that Yokogawa has already supplied CEMS equipment to KSM in Zambia, where the systems have been highly evaluated, demonstrating the effectiveness of the technology in monitoring industrial emissions.
“Additionally, we would like to highlight that Yokogawa has recently released Y-DAS, a system capable of centrally managing data automatically collected and recorded by CEMSs in each industrial plant,” he said.
Mr. Hasegawa expressed confidence that the system will directly contribute to strengthening the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment’s environmental management framework and improving regulatory oversight.
He further stated that through continued cooperation and technology transfer, the company intends to contribute to addressing social and environmental challenges in Zambia in a sustainable manner.
“Through these efforts, we intend to continue contributing to solving social challenges in Zambia in a sustainable way,” he said.
Speaking earlier, Zambia’s Ambassador to Japan, Dr. Tobias Mulimbika, commended Yokogawa Electric Corporation for its continued commitment to supporting Zambia’s environmental management and sustainability agenda.
Dr. Mulimbika said as Zambia pursues inclusive economic growth and industrial development, the Government remains firmly committed to ensuring that such growth is environmentally sustainable and aligned with national and international climate obligations.
“Allow me to commend Yokogawa for its longstanding global expertise in industrial automation, environmental monitoring, and digital solutions. The company’s footprint in Africa, and its growing engagement with Zambia, reflects a shared commitment to sustainable industrialization and responsible environmental stewardship.”
The workshop forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen technical capacity in emissions monitoring and enhance environmental compliance across Zambia’s industrial sector.
It provides a practical platform for technical officers, policymakers and stakeholders to deepen their understanding of modern emissions monitoring technologies, their application in industrial and regulatory contexts, and their role in strengthening environmental compliance.
