ZAMBIA SIGNS AGREEMENT WITH CHINESE CONSORTIUM TO DRIVE RURAL REVITALIZATION

Zambia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Chinese African Origins Consortium to enhance China-Africa cooperation and jointly explore a sustainable path for rural revitalization in the country

The agreement is based on China’s successful rural revitalization experience, characterized by thriving industries, eco-friendly living environments, social etiquette and civility, effective governance, and prosperous livelihoods, and adapted to Zambia’s local resource endowments and cultural characteristics.

It seeks to develop an integrated rural revitalization demonstration project that combines leisure farming experiences, cultural tourism, and agricultural modernization—directly advancing the Presidential vision of transforming Zambia’s agricultural sector through expanded irrigated production.

Deputy Secretary to the Cabinet- Finance and Economic Development, Siazongo Siakalenge – stated that the Zambia. Government looks forward to the development and implementation of the agreements that will actualize the projects embedded in the MOU.

“These initiatives align with the Eighth National Development Plan and the President’s vision of transforming Zambia’s economy through sustainable agriculture and rural development,” he said.

Mr. Siakalenge was speaking during the signing ceremony held simultaneously at the Zambian Embassy in Beijing, China, and Cabinet Office in Lusaka, Zambia.

Meanwhile, Zambia’s Ambassador to China Ivan Zyuulu stressed that the signing of the partnership agreement marked an important milestone.

Mr. Zyuulu called for the development of a comprehensive project implementation plan, identification of suitable implementation sites, and conduction of feasibility studies as soon as possible to ensure successful implementation of the project.

This is according to a statement issued by second Secretary Communications, at the Zambian Embassy in Beijing -China,
Catherine Muumba Kashoti.
