On August 19, 2025, the Ministry of Education (MINEDUC) officially released the results for the 2024/2025 national examinations for both Primary Six and O-Level students. The announcement was made at the Rwanda Basic Education Board (REB) headquarters in Remera.
In total, 220,927 candidates registered for the Primary Six national exams, with 219,926 ultimately taking them. Female candidates made up 53.2% of those who sat the exams, continuing a trend of strong participation and performance among girls. At the O-Level, 149,206 students had registered, with 148,702 sitting for the exams. Among them, 95,674 passed, with female students slightly outperforming their male counterparts (50.2% vs. 49.8%).
District-level analysis shows that Kirehe District led in performance at both primary and O-Level, followed by Kicukiro and Ngoma. This reflects ongoing efforts by local education authorities to prioritize academic achievement.
Placement data for students has also been released. Over 15,000 Primary Six graduates were placed in boarding schools, while the majority were assigned to nearby day schools. Similarly, more than 20,000 O-Level students were placed in boarding schools, while close to 19,000 were placed in day schools. A large number of students were directed into technical and vocational pathways, including TSS, teacher training colleges, and health-assistant programs.
MINEDUC also highlighted top performers at both education levels. At the Primary Six level, Arakaza Leo Victor from Wisdom School (Musanze) topped the country with a score of 99.4%. He was followed by strong candidates from Bugesera and Huye districts. In the O-Level category, Izere Henock Tresor from E.S Kanombe (Kicukiro) led nationally with a score of 98.67%, followed by Uwumuremyi Albert and Ineza Florent Elyse, both from Hope Haven School in Gasabo.
