Africa Urged to Boost Efficient Energy Use

The Minister of Energy, Deogratius Ndejembi, has called on African countries to unite in implementing strategies and plans aimed at promoting efficient energy use, in order to reduce energy loss and avoid unnecessary financial costs related to unneeded investments.

Ndejembi made the call today, December 10, 2025, while addressing the African Union (AU) Energy Conference at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

“When African nations meet here as stakeholders in the energy sector, it is essential that we join forces in implementing our plans for the development of our continent. The Government of Tanzania is ready to work with the private sector, development partners, and all stakeholders to ensure we achieve significant economic and social progress,” said Ndejembi.

Additionally, Minister Ndejembi participated in a ministerial discussion with Energy Ministers from various African countries, where he presented key progress made by Tanzania in managing energy efficiency and promoting clean cooking energy.

Ndejembi stated that Tanzania has already launched and is implementing a 10-year National Strategy for Clean Cooking Energy (2024–2034), along with a communication strategy and an action plan to ensure the implementation of these initiatives reaches the Tanzanian public.

“In Tanzania, by November 2025, about 23.2% of citizens are using clean cooking energy compared to 6.9% in 2021. As a nation, we have made great strides, and we expect to significantly increase the number of clean energy users,” Ndejembi added.

During the visit, Minister Ndejembi was accompanied by the Commissioner for Electricity and Renewable Energy from the Ministry of Energy, Engineer Innocent Luoga.
