Nyamirambo: A tip given to an employee became the cause of a fatal stone assault

Nsengiyumva Frugence, a 19-year-old who worked as a customer tout for a mini restaurant operating in Nyamirambo, in an area known as Marangi, is accused of killing his colleague by hitting him with a stone following a disagreement over tips given by the restaurant.

The 19-year-old suspect is accused of killing a coworker with whom he did the same job of attracting customers to restaurants operating in Nyamirambo, in Marangi, in the village of Gabiro, Biryogo Cell, Nyarugenge Sector, Nyarugenge District.

The death occurred on 17/12/2025 at around 8:00 p.m., when Nsengiyumva Frugence, aged 19, got into a fight with his colleague Elie Ndayisenga, commonly known as Pasteur, aged 28, as they argued over three customers who had come to eat in Marangi, a confrontation that cost one of them his life.

Nsengiyumva Frugence, 19, who is suspected of killing his colleague by hitting him with a stone, worked as a customer tout at the mini restaurant owned by Christella Retitia, aged 34, while Elie Ndayisenga, known as Pasteur, aged 28, worked for Sumaya Restaurant owned by Uwimpuhwe Sumaya.

The Kigali City Police spokesperson, CIP Gahonzire Wellars, confirmed that the information is true.

He said, “Yes, the information is true. It happened in the evening hours. Two young men who work as restaurant customer touts were involved. Nsengiyumva Frugence, aged 19, hit Ndayisenga Elie, aged 28, with a stone, causing his death.”

The Kigali City Police spokesperson explained that the disagreement arose after the two young men received three customers at a restaurant who wanted food, after which they failed to agree on the money known as tips given by the restaurant. One then hit the other with a stone, resulting in his death.

He added, “The one who was hit with the stone immediately fell to the ground and died. The deceased was taken to Kacyiru Hospital for examination to determine the cause of death, while the suspect was arrested and is being held at Nyarugenge Police Station.”

Residents living near Marangi in Biryogo expressed concern about their security and called for increased measures to prevent violence and frequent fights caused by touts, in order to safeguard the lives of those who work in and pass through the area.

If the young man is found guilty of the murder he is accused of, he faces life imprisonment as provided by the law governing crimes and penalties in general, under Article 107, which addresses intentional homicide and its punishment. It states: “A person who intentionally kills another commits an offense. If found guilty by a court, he or she shall be sentenced to life imprisonment.”
