Alpha FC, which competes in the Rwandan Second Division League, is set to be handed over to Sudanese investors. Charles Harerimana, who founded the team shortly before 2020, has now sold it to these investors from Sudan.
According to information from UMUSEKE, these investors have been interested in purchasing Alpha FC for some time, and while the process is well underway, it is not yet finalized.
A source stated, “Since the last sports season, they have been scouting for a team. They have dreams of owning a club in Rwanda, but the deal is not yet fully closed.”
The source continued, “Patrick Namenye is the one who brought them, but the full acquisition of the team has not been reached yet.”
Other reports indicate that Alpha FC has already been purchased, and what remains is the ongoing process of organizing all the legal documents to grant them full rights over the club.
The Managing Director of SK FM Radio, Patrick Namenye, who previously served as the Secretary General of Rayon Sports, acted as the intermediary between the Sudanese investors and the club’s management.
Following the takeover, three coaches were dismissed, including head coach Uwimana Abdul ‘Gakara’, his assistant, and the goalkeeping coach. They were immediately replaced by a new technical staff, including the head coach known as ‘Kanoute’, along with his assistant and Ramadhan, the goalkeeping coach who joined from La Jeunesse FC.
The team retained Olivier, the fitness coach, but reports suggest that for the next season, the club will have ambitious goals, including finishing among the top four teams.
Additional information reveals that the primary reason these Sudanese investors purchased the club is to use it as a pathway for players from their country to find opportunities in stronger leagues outside of Rwanda.
In Group A of the Second Division League, Alpha FC sits in ninth place with eight points out of the 10 teams in the group. They are tied on points with the bottom-placed Addax SC, separated only by goal difference.
