Anthony Joshua Discharged From Hospital After Deadly Road Crash

The Lagos and Ogun State governments have confirmed that British-Nigerian boxing star, Anthony Joshua, has been discharged from hospital following the road accident that resulted in the deaths of two young men, Lateef Ayodele and Gami Cina.
The tragic incident occurred on Monday, December 29, 2025.

In a joint statement issued on Wednesday, the two state governments extended fresh condolences to the bereaved families, describing the accident as a heartbreaking and regrettable loss. They offered prayers for the peaceful rest of the deceased and for strength and comfort for their families.

The statement was jointly signed by the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Gbenga Omotoso, and the Ogun State Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr Kayode Akinmade.

The statement noted that Anthony Joshua, alongside his mother, visited a funeral home in Lagos on Wednesday to pay their last respects to the deceased friends, whose remains were being prepared for repatriation later in the day.

It further disclosed that Joshua was discharged from Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, on Wednesday evening after medical experts confirmed he was stable and fit to continue his recovery at home.

Governors Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State and Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State expressed gratitude to Nigerians and members of the public for the concern, prayers and show of solidarity since the accident.

They also acknowledged the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing it as reassuring and fatherly during the difficult period.

The governments praised the doctors and health workers at Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, for their professionalism, commitment and quality medical care provided to Joshua and other victims of the crash.
