Cabinet Prioritizes Sustainable Development and Regulation of Vehicle Emissions

On Wednesday, July 30, 2025, the Cabinet meeting held at Village Urugwiro and chaired by President Paul Kagame approved a series of decisions aimed at advancing national development and protecting the environment.

Among the resolutions passed was the approval of inspection fees for vehicle emissions. This measure is part of the implementation of quality standards aimed at reducing air pollution and safeguarding public health. The inspection will apply to all engine-powered vehicles, including motorcycles, to promote environmentally sustainable growth.

The Cabinet also approved the allocation of public land to the Africa Health Sciences University (AHSU) for the construction of a medical school, which will help increase the number of skilled professionals in the health sector. Additionally, it granted official operating status to the International Covenant College as a private higher learning institution. The college will launch with two departments: Media and Technology, and Early Childhood Education.

In international cooperation, the Cabinet approved the accreditation of new representatives from various countries and international organizations to Rwanda. These include envoys from Egypt, Mali, Lesotho, Georgia, Gambia, Mexico, Slovakia, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as well as representatives from agencies such as the French Development Agency (AFD) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
