Liquid cuts fibre entry price to K300 as Zambia’s digital market expands

By Monica Kayombo,Zambia, Lusaka,

LIQUID Intelligent Technologies Zambia has lowered the entry price for its fibre internet service to K300 per month, in a move aimed at widening access to high-speed connectivity among households, entrepreneurs and businesses. The company, a business of Cassava Technologies, has introduced a new entry-level Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) package called Easy Home, offering speeds of up to 6 Mbps. The pricing change comes as Zambia continues to grapple with relatively low internet penetration, currently estimated at 33 percent, creating significant room for growth in the country’s digital economy.

Liquid has also increased speeds on its existing fibre packages without raising their monthly subscription fees, effectively giving existing customers more capacity at the same cost. Under the revised packages, Flexi Home has doubled from 6 Mbps to 12 Mbps, while Home Lite 10 has increased from 10 Mbps to 20 Mbps. Home Essential has moved from 20 Mbps to 40 Mbps, while Family Entertainment has more than doubled from 30 Mbps to 65 Mbps. The company has further raised Modern Family speeds from 50 Mbps to 100 Mbps, while its Power Pack has increased from 100 Mbps to 150 Mbps.

For Liquid, the move represents more than a consumer broadband price adjustment, as businesses increasingly depend on reliable connectivity for day-to-day operations and digital expansion. The company says the improved fibre services will enable entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to make greater use of cloud applications, digital payments, e-commerce, virtual meetings and online customer engagement. This could be particularly significant for businesses shifting from traditional operating models towards digital platforms, where internet connectivity has become an essential input for accessing customers, payments, suppliers and cloud-based services.

Larger organisations are also increasingly reliant on high-speed connectivity for data-intensive activities such as cloud adoption, collaboration, video conferencing, data backup and supporting distributed workforces, according to the company.

Liquid Zambia chief executive officer Leah Kooma said the company wanted to make quality internet more accessible to Zambians while supporting participation in the digital economy. “At Liquid, we believe access to quality internet should be within reach of every Zambian,” Ms Kooma said. She said the company was responding to Zambia’s ambition to build a more inclusive and digitally empowered nation by reducing the cost barrier to fibre connectivity and increasing speeds across its packages.

The company expects households to use the enhanced connectivity for online learning, remote work, streaming, gaming and other digital services, while supporting the growing number of internet-connected devices in homes. From a business perspective, Liquid’s expansion comes as connectivity becomes increasingly intertwined with productivity and competitiveness. SMEs, for example, can use fibre connectivity to process digital payments, engage customers online, operate e-commerce platforms and access cloud-based business tools.

Liquid says the changes are part of its broader effort to strengthen Zambia’s connectivity landscape and support the country’s digital development. The company is part of Cassava Technologies, an African technology group operating in more than 40 markets across Africa, the Middle East and Latin America. Liquid describes itself as a pan-African digital infrastructure provider, with a 116,000-kilometre fibre broadband network and satellite connectivity, alongside cloud and cybersecurity services delivered through partnerships with global technology companies.

With the new K300 entry point and higher speeds across its portfolio, Liquid is seeking to capture a wider share of Zambia’s broadband market while positioning reliable connectivity as an increasingly important foundation for households and businesses participating in the digital economy.
