Equal Rights Upheld as Students Begin National Primary Leaving Exams

On the morning of June 30, 2025, a total of 220,840 students across Rwanda began their national primary leaving examinations. Among them are 120,635 girls and 100,205 boys.

The exams were officially launched by the Minister of Education, Joseph Nsengimana, at GS Institut Filippo Smaldone, located in Nyamirambo Sector, Nyarugenge District. He emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring all students, including those with disabilities, are well supported throughout the examination process.

A total of 642 students with disabilities are sitting for these exams with access to specialized tools and accommodations. These include Braille materials for visually impaired students, large print papers, audio recorders, and extended time during exams—measures designed to ensure that every child can participate on equal footing.

This effort reflects Rwanda’s continued progress toward inclusive education and the protection of every child’s right to learn and complete their studies without discrimination.
