Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari was laid to rest at his home in Daura, in the northern Katsina State, after passing away on Sunday due to a prolonged illness. He died while receiving treatment at a clinic in London.
The country’s President, Bola Tinubu, attended the funeral alongside Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, the President of Guinea-Bissau, the Prime Minister of Niger, and former Niger President Mahamadou Issoufou.

Buhari’s body arrived at the airport in Katsina State on Tuesday, where it was received by President Tinubu and other top government officials. Many citizens dressed in traditional Muslim attire were also in attendance, as a military ceremony was held with a 21-gun salute in his honor.
Following the ceremony, the body was transported to Daura, around 80 kilometers away, where he was buried according to Islamic traditions.
To honor Buhari’s memory, President Tinubu declared a week of national mourning, with Tuesday observed as a public holiday across the country.
Muhammadu Buhari was one of Nigeria’s leaders who ruled both as a military head of state in the 1980s and later as a democratically elected president.
