On Monday morning, two men who were in custody facing charges of murder and theft in Rwamagana District were shot after resisting police officers who were escorting them to show where they had hidden stolen items.
The incident took place in Muyumbu Sector, Nyarukombe Cell, where a murder occurred that claimed the lives of Mudaheranwa Venuste and Bizimana Mark, both security guards at a beverage warehouse. Following the killings, several items were stolen, including products from Bralirwa and EBM machines.
Security forces had arrested several suspects believed to be involved in the crimes, including the two men who were shot. According to the Rwanda National Police, the suspects attempted to resist the officers while being taken to the location of the hidden stolen goods, leading to the shooting.
Eastern Province Police Spokesperson, SP Hamdun Twizeyimana, confirmed that the individuals were detained as serious crime suspects and that the incident was a consequence of their behavior while in custody.
He urged those involved in criminal activities to desist and called on citizens to continue cooperating with security agencies by providing information and helping to prevent crime. He reminded the public that the law is firm and that no one will be tolerated when they threaten peace and security.
