Murekatete Bella, one of Rwanda’s most prominent women’s basketball players, has taken another major step in her professional career by signing with Toulouse Métropole Basket, a newly promoted team to France’s top division, La Boulangère Wonderligue. The team secured promotion after winning the championship in the second division last season.

The 24-year-old athlete from Huye District recently played for Club Freseras de Irapuato Básquetbol in Mexico’s top league, where she featured in the playoff games. Prior to that, she competed in Spain with Cadí La Seu, further proving her capabilities at the European level.
Murekatete first rose to prominence while playing college basketball in the United States with Washington State Cougars, where she spent several years developing her game and gaining international experience. That foundation has prepared her for this latest professional milestone.

She remains a key player for Rwanda’s national team and is expected to feature in the upcoming FIBA Women’s AfroBasket tournament, which will be held in Côte d’Ivoire from July 25 to August 3, 2025.
Before focusing on basketball, Murekatete grew up playing football and volleyball, but her talent truly flourished on the basketball court. In 2022, she was named the league’s Most Improved Player, a recognition of her growth and performance.
Murekatete has represented Rwanda in various age categories — U16, U18, and now the senior national team — a journey that has played a crucial role in honing her skills and preparing her for international competition.
