Player Conduct and a Barrier to the Progress of Foreign Footballers in Rwanda

As Rwanda’s Premier League continues to attract players from outside the country, concerns are growing over how off-field behavior affects the performance and development of these foreign players. Some of the factors seen as hindrances to their progress include frequenting nightclubs, excessive alcohol consumption, and overindulgence in social activities.

Rukundo Abdul Rahman, a Burundian midfielder playing for Rayon Sports, pointed out that such behavior has negatively impacted some of his fellow countrymen who came to play in Rwanda. He emphasized that for a player to succeed, discipline and focus on professional goals are essential.

Kigali girls were pointed out as one of the factors negatively affecting foreign players

Having spent a year at the Nzove-based club, Rukundo acknowledged that his playing time has decreased due to competition with more established players in the squad. However, he expressed readiness to work harder and grow professionally, with the goal of helping his team win the league title in the upcoming season.

Abdul Rahman ‘Paplay’ said that among the things players should avoid in Kigali are local girls and alcohol

He also praised the achievements of other Burundian players who came before him, saying they serve as a good example for talented players back home who lack opportunities in their own country.
