Tomorrow ( October 12, 2025), the World Health Organisation (WHO) and various health stakeholders from academia, politics, and the private sector have gathered for the World Health Summit (WHS) in Berlin, Germany, to find lasting solutions to pressing global health challenges. The Summit, themed “Taking Responsibility for Health in a Fragmenting World,” brings together over 400 speakers, including WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and Germany’s Federal Minister of Health Nina Warken.
The Summit will feature over 70 sessions, discussing critical topics such as Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), climate change, digital innovation, health equity, and health tax. These discussions aim to shape the future of global health, particularly in the wake of the United States’ withdrawal from WHO and its support to the health sector in various countries.
In his welcoming remarks on the WHS website, Federal Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz has emphasized the need for global cooperation, stating, “As our world navigates shared challenges, the call to take responsibility for the common good has become more urgent than ever. Many important decisions today can only be made together and multilaterally to achieve common goals.”
WHS Chief Executive Officer Carsten Schicker highlights the Summit’s role in uniting leaders and decision-makers from various sectors, saying, “The World Health Summit is where global health and those shaping it come together across sectors and across generations.”
WHS President Axel R. Pries has emphasized the importance of science-based dialogue, stating, “In a fragmenting world, the World Health Summit stands as a platform for constructive, science-based, and truly multilateral cooperation. While global challenges grow, we focus on the opportunities that lie in rethinking and reshaping systems.”
