Celebrating World Food Day, Leaders and Students Promote Healthy Nutrition by Planting Fruit Trees

This Friday, in Nyamagabe District in the Southern Province, World Food Day was celebrated, where various leaders, citizens, and students joined efforts to plant over 5,000 fruit trees in schools. This initiative was organized to encourage citizens to adopt a balanced diet and increase the availability of nutrient-rich foods.

The theme for this year’s World Food Day is “Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future”. It emphasizes that combating hunger and promoting healthy nutrition requires the collaboration of all sectors, including farmers, leaders, consumers, and international partners.

During the event, it was highlighted that the world currently has over 700 million people suffering from hunger, and everyone is called upon to contribute to increasing agricultural and livestock production by adopting new practices and government strategies aimed at fighting hunger and promoting good nutrition.

This year’s World Food Day was preceded by a month dedicated to encouraging Rwandans to adopt healthy diets, which began with the planting of fruit trees at GSNDP Cyanika.

The event was attended by Minister of Agriculture and Animal Resources, Dr. Bagabe Cyubahiro Mark, Governor of the Southern Province, Kayitesi Alice, as well as MINAGRI partners including FAO, WFP, and others.

Leaders urged citizens to continue participating in activities aimed at increasing production and combating malnutrition, emphasizing that planting over 5,000 fruit trees is a positive step in enabling schools to contribute to providing nutrient-rich foods and promoting sustainable development based on healthy nutrition in Rwanda.
