Wiz Khalifa faces legal proceedings in Romania over Weed use

American rapper Wiz Khalifa continues to face legal challenges in Romania after the Constanța Court of Appeal issued a ruling sentencing him to nine months in prison for Weed use.

The decision was made on Thursday, December 18, after the court approved an appeal filed by the prosecution requesting that a previous sentence be changed. Initially, Wiz Khalifa had been fined $700, but prosecutors argued that the penalty was insufficient under Romania’s strict drug laws, leading the court to impose a nine-month prison sentence.

Although the court handed down the sentence, the nine-month prison term is not yet final. Reports indicate that Wiz Khalifa’s legal team is continuing the appeals process in an effort to seek an alternative resolution that would avoid imprisonment.

The legal issues began in July 2024, when Wiz Khalifa was briefly detained after performing at the Beach Please! festival held on the Costinești seaside. At the time, he was seen using Weed on stage while performing the song “The Next Episode” by Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, an act considered a serious offense under Romanian law and one that can result in a prison sentence, as reflected in the court’s nine-month ruling.
