As the music industry in East Africa continues to grow and expand on an international level, the list of the 10 richest artists in this region for the year 2026 has been announced. What surprised many is that no Rwandan artist and Burundi artist is on this list, despite Rwanda, Burundi having many artists who show great potential in music.
This list, compiled by the Kenyan publication TUKO, shows that artists from Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda continue to dominate the market, especially those performing the Bongo Flava genre which continues to lead in the region.
In the first place is Diamond Platnumz from Tanzania, with a fortune estimated at 10 million dollars [over 14 billion Rwandan Francs].
This artist is known for owning many ventures, including the Wasafi music label as well as various media outlets, things that have helped him reach a high level of wealth.
In second place is Akothee from Kenya, who also has 10 million dollars, where her activities are not limited to music alone but she also has various businesses including tourism travel and real estate.
In third place is Harmonize with 6.8 million dollars, followed by Jose Chameleone with 6 million dollars, and Bobi Wine with 5 million dollars, who besides being an artist is also a prominent politician in Uganda.
The others who follow are Jaguar with 4.5 million dollars, Ali Kiba with 4 million dollars, Lady Jaydee with 3.9 million dollars, Khaligraph Jones with 3.8 million dollars, and Bebe Cool who closes the list with a fortune of 2.6 million dollars.
This list shows that Tanzanian artists have a significant share, as indicated by the numbers and how they have been able to turn their music into commercial success.
At the African level, the richest artist is Youssou N’Dour from Senegal with 145 million dollars, followed by Davido from Nigeria with 100 million dollars, Black Coffee from South Africa who possesses 84 million dollars, Akon from Senegal with 50 million dollars, and D’banj from Nigeria with a fortune equal to 40 million dollars.
