Kigali: Training Aimed at Enhancing the Skills of Journalists and Human Rights Defenders

As part of efforts to strengthen the capacities of journalists and employees of human rights organizations, a training session organized by the Trade Union of Workers for Human Rights (STRADH) began on August 25, 2025. The five-day training is scheduled to end on August 29, 2025.

The training was officially opened by the Ambassador of Canada to Rwanda, Julie Crowley, who emphasized her country’s continued commitment to supporting initiatives that promote human rights. She thanked the organizers for their role in facilitating knowledge sharing.

On behalf of STRADH, the organization’s spokesperson, Bizimana Alphonse, expressed gratitude to the Canadian Embassy for its visible support, noting that such backing brings renewed energy to those working in human rights advocacy and responsible journalism.

During the training, Me. Mukantabana Rose, a former Member of Parliament, shared her experience in legal matters and investigative reporting on human rights issues. She focused on how to structure such reports and protect information using digital tools.

The training aims to equip participants with knowledge on how to gather and report on human rights stories, ensure information security, and use digital tools safely and effectively.

Participants were encouraged to make good use of the skills acquired, to help deliver accurate and human rights-respecting information.
